Richard Louis Malinowski, 65, was born August 4, 1951, in Chicago and entered into eternal life on February 23, 2017 at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Harriet (Krause) Malinowski; loving father of Jason (Jennifer), Brian (Patti), Kevin (Melissa), and Steven (Kim); cherished grandfather of Adam, Harry, Guy, Allison, and a soon-to-be addition; dear brother of Robert (Anita) Malinowski and the late Rita (Don) Chartier; fond brother-in-law of Victoria (Randall) Wells; caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Rich attended St. Hedwig Grammar School, Weber High School, and DeVry. He was a drummer and lifeguard as a young man and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Rich and Harriet were married in March 1973, after having met through a lifelong mutual friend on a blind date. Their four sons and their families were a constant source of pride and love.
Rich worked for the last 28 years for AVI-SPL as a senior service technician for audio-visual systems until his retirement in September 2016. He shared his time and expertise with the faith community of St. Raymond for many years, volunteering to fix and maintain the parish sound systems and was presented with the Jubilate Deo Award in 2009. In addition, he was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 155 from 1986 to 1992. An avid handyman, Rich loved to spend time with his sons on home improvement projects. Rich and Harriet enjoyed traveling around the world and sharing their experiences with their family.
Visitation for Rich will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 26, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect, IL 60056.
Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, 301 S. I-Oka Ave, Mount Prospect, IL 60056. with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Private entombment will follow.
